Answer to Question 1

A sanjun is in recurring eightbeat phrases often with a short-long-short rhythmic marker and made up of isorhythmic patterns (the second half of a phrase has the exact same rhythm as the first half of the phrase).
Today, the instrument that Cotacachi Quichua often use to perform sanjun is the harp without pedals called a diatonic harp . . .
Having few motorized vehicles or roads, most of the Quichua rely on walking the ubiquitous footpaths found throughout the area. Walking therefore is a very important aspect of their life and culture.

Answer to Question 2

Diversity: Latin America is a continent and a half with more than twenty different countries; dozens of different languages including Native-American dialects; and diverse geographyAndes Mountains, Amazon basin, Peruvian-Chilean deserts.
Common heritage: Spanish/Portuguese colonialism and American, European, African, and Native-American cultural influences
It is hard to maintain strict cultural divisions within Latin America because of the intermingling of Iberian (Spanish and Portuguese), African, and Native-American cultural strains.
