 Folk music, for example, the distinctive musical calls or chanted sacred songs by traveling vendors selling wares or services and who are trying to gain the attention of prospective buyers.

 With globalization, Indian music, like the culture in general, is absorbing the new as it always has. Yet the old, the traditional, remains. In the palimpsest that is South Asia, the interplay between the ancient and the modern continues through all the changes of time and history. This coexistence of the old and the new is part of the amazing mosaic that is India.
