 Christianity is the largest and longest established religion in Europe.
Roman Catholicism, Orthodoxy (primarily in the east and southeast), and various branches of Protestantism (strongest in northern Europe and the United Kingdom).

 The differences among these religious groups have tended to shape individuals' and society's interactions, in turn, impacting music-cultural practices.
