Answer to Question 1

Straight songs are those that feature only vocables, while word songs have lyrics that often mix vocables with texts in an indigenous language.
Straight Up is a straight song.

Answer to Question 2

Push-up is the term for a verse of a powwow song. There should be four repetitions of a single verse or push-up. They occur at each new verse.
The number four is important because there are four directions and four sacred colors in a medicine wheel.
Notice how the four push-ups in Straight Up are varied repetitions.
