The smart grid has the ability to send and receive data from each end user and any appliances or equipment that they have plugged into the electrical system if the equipment has a smart grid interface. The smart grid delivers electrical power like the conventional grid, but it also can send information to turn off appliances such as air conditioner or water heating until the load on the grid is lower.
