Why can oil furnaces operate at efficiencies between 80 and 90 without condensing water in the heat exchanger or vent?

Answer to Question 1

The combustion products contain only half as much water as combustion products from a gas furnace. So the dew point of the combustion gasses in an oil furnace is lower than in a gas furnace.

Answer to Question 2

The venting materials for Categories II and III are costly.
