Answer to Question 1

The refrigerant drops in pressure and temperature as it passes through the metering device. A small portion of the refrigerant flashes to a vapor, cooling the remaining liquid.

Answer to Question 2

A 3 metal collar is fastened to the flanges on the unit with sheet metal screws. The duct board is connected to the collar using long screws with large 2  square washers. The joint will then be sealed.
