Boiling requires heat. When a liquid boils it extracts heat from whatever it is touching.

Answer to Question 2

Vented room gas heaters have an opening that is permanently connected to the chimney to convey the flue gas to the outdoors. Unvented room gas heaters discharge the products of combustion into the room.
