Answer to Question 1

Full thermal storage systems will generate ice when the costs are lowest during the off-peak periods, typically at night. This ice is then melted to cool the building during the daytime hours while the large capacity refrigeration chiller is shut down. Partial thermal storage systems differ in that they utilize a reduced size refrigeration chiller that is operating along with the melting ice to cool the building.
