Answer to Question 1

Rectangular ducts are joined by S-locks and drives cleats. S locks are used on the larger duct dimension, usually the top and bottom. The shorter dimensions are joined by drive cleats. The duct edges are turned back, the drive cleat slips over the edges and pulls the duct together. These are driven down with a mallet; thus the name, drive cleat. These joints sealed with UL 181-A mastic or UL 181-A tape and mastic.

Answer to Question 2

Mark the hole on the trunk
Cut an insulating ring out of fiberduct, slide over the takeoff and tape in place. Coat the flange portion of the takeoff with mastic.
Insert the dovetail tabs into the hole. Reach in and bend over the dovetails.
