Answer to Question 1

Underpinning is required when there are structures adjacent to construction projects since the structural integrity of the soil surrounding the existing structures is compromised when a new site is being excavated adjacent to them. Municipal ordinances or state laws require certain procedures to be followed to underpin adjacent structures if their safety is compromised during construction operations. Contracts should state that the owner is responsible for adjacent structures, and their structural integrity, during construction but owners rely on the contractor to perform the underpinning or owners will hire a separate contractor that specializes in underpinning and have them perform the work.

The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
