A microgrid is a subset of the smart grid that has the ability to operate independently. A microgrid can be augmented by renewable energy to provide reliable renewable energy.

Answer to Question 2

1 . Personnel protection by assuring metal parts such as cases are at ground potential

2 . System protection in case of lightning or a fault.
