Why is detecting Earth-sized planets much more difficult than finding Jupiter-sized planets around other stars?

Answer to Question 1

Jupiter is much more massive, so its gravity will produce enough pull on its star to create observed Doppler shifts. Also, Jupiter is much larger, so if it were to transit the disk of its star, the drop in starlight would be easier to detect.
