The sky is blue because molecules in the atmosphere scatter blue light more effectively than red light.

Answer to Question 2

Hubble's discovery showed that the universe is expanding. If the universe is expanding, then it should have been smaller in the past. Extrapolating back, there must have been a time when everything was in one placewhich we call the Big Bang.
