Answer to Question 1

This is the case, as documented extensively. About 4000 more people died than
would have been expected in the absence of the smog episode.

Answer to Question 2

This has occurred for large companies such as Monsanto, 3M, and DuPont, as
discussed in the book. These companies have saved millions of dollars while reducing
emissions.
