Answer to Question 1

This is correct. The longer the piece of wire, the greater the resistance. In the
Drude model, this is due to collisions of electrons in the conductor with the positively
charged atoms in the conductor.

Answer to Question 2

These lifetimes are changing all the time as more of the resource is exploited and
the total reserves divided by the (growing) rate of extraction changes.
