Answer to Question 1

This is a sentiment reflecting what is felt by many supporters of nuclear energy,
and has a kernel of truth to it. Safety requirements are far more stringent for nuclear plants
than for fossil-fuel plants. However, the reluctance of members of the public are more likely
to be reverberating remnants of the Three Mile Island accident and the Chernobyl accident.

Answer to Question 2

Different families operate on different schedules. One might eat at 6 PM, some
may eat at 7 PM. This means that the maximum demand for one family and for the other
fall at different times. The net generating capacity is less than if each family had its own
generator.
