Answer to Question 1

This question is based on reports of such a plan. It is desirable to consider as
many aspects of a complex situation as possible. It is prudent to preserve the quality of life
made possible by local ecosystems.
This is especially so because we depend on Earth's ecosystems for many services. This is
discussed at length in Ch. 26.

Answer to Question 2

This is correct, because the cost of local transmission would be greatly reduced if
transmission wires with no resistance were used. As was seen in question 10, local
transmission accounts for about half the transmission costs.
