Which of the following does NOT contribute to the thermoelectric effect?
a.Conduction electrons pass thermal and electrical energy.
  b. Higher temperatures cause more electrons to be in excited states.
  c. The conduction and resistive properties of a semiconductor are related to temperature.
  d. In a metal, some electrons are essentially free.
  e. The magnetic moments of electrons in metals tend to align when heated.

Question 2

How does increasing the temperature affect a semiconductor?

a. The band gaps increase in energy.
  b. The resistance decreases linearly with increasing temperature.
  c. More and more electrons are near the Fermi energy.
  d. The electrons separate from their paired state when the resistance increases.
  e. At the critical temperature, the semiconductor becomes an impurity semiconductor.

Answer to Question 1

e.
This statement is not true. The magnetic moments of electrons within metals do not necessarily align when heated, and most often heating disrupts the alignment of the magnetic moments. This occurs in ferromagnets and paramagnets.

Answer to Question 2

c.
With the temperature increased, more and more electrons are close to being excited into the conduction band and participating in the electrical and thermal conduction processes within the semiconductor.
