Answer to Question 1

For the mass on the plumb bob to pass directly above the masking tape marker on
each rotation its angular velocity must be constant and this can only happen if the
string is pulled at a uniform rate.

Answer to Question 2

The centripetal force increases with an increase in mass. This is expected, because
the centripetal force is directly proportional to the mass as shown in Eq. 8.2 in the
Laboratory Guide.
