A 15-F capacitor is connected to a 50-V battery and becomes fully charged. The battery is removed and a slab of dielectric that completely fills the space between the plates is inserted.

The dielectric has a dielectric constant of 5.0.
  (a) What is the capacitance of the capacitor after the slab is inserted?
  (b) What is the voltage across the capacitor's plates after the slab is inserted?

Question 2

Redshift measurements on a galaxy show that it is receding from us with a velocity of 7240 km/s.

  Estimate how far away the galaxy is if the Hubble constant is 22 km/s per million light-years. (c = 3.00  108 m/s, 1 ly = 9.461  1015 m, 1 y = 3.156  107 s)
  A) 3.1  1024 m
  B) 1.2  1024 m
  C) 4.1  1023 m
  D) 1.2  1026 m
  E) 2.0  1022 m
