A cylinder contains 10 moles of an ideal gas at a temperature of 300 K. The gas is compressed at constant pressure until the final volume equals 0.77 times the initial volume.

The molar heat capacity at constant volume of the gas is 24.0 J/mol  K and R = 8.31 J/mol  K . How much heat is absorbed by the gas during this process? (R = 8.31 J/mol  K)
  A) -22 kJ
  B) -17 kJ
  C) 22 kJ
  D) 17 kJ
  E) -5.7 kJ

Question 2

An eagle, with a wingspread of 2.0 m, flies toward the north at 8.0 m/s in a region where the vertical component of the earth's magnetic field is 0.20  10-4 T.

What emf would be developed between the eagle's wing tips? (It has been speculated that this phenomenon could play a role in the navigation of birds, but the effect is too small, in all likelihood.)

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
