A 120-kg refrigerator, 2.00 m tall and 85.0 cm wide, has its center of mass at its geometrical center. You are attempting to slide it along the floor by pushing horizontally on the side of the refrigerator.

The coefficient of static friction between the floor and the refrigerator is 0.300. Depending on where you push, the refrigerator may start to tip over before it starts to slide along the floor. What is the highest distance above the floor that you can push the refrigerator so that it won't tip before it begins to slide? A) 0.710 m
  B) 1.00 m

Answer to Question 1

D

Answer to Question 2

Answer: In both instances you experience weightlessness. The main difference is the time involved. Stepping off a curb involves apparent weightlessness for a very brief time. Orbiting in a space vehicle involves not a moment in time, but all the time you are coasting in orbit.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
