Why does it hurt more to fall from a certain height to the ground than it does to fall from the same height into a swimming pool?

Answer to Question 1

You go much further into the water before coming to a stop, thus your acceleration is much smaller, and the force exerted by the water is much smaller than that exerted by the ground.
