Why is termination in behavior therapy different from most other terminations of treatment?

  a. Termination does not occur until the therapist is sure the client will not backslide once he or she is out of therapy.
  b. It is easier for the therapist and client to agree on when it is time to terminate therapy, because the behavioral goal has been clearly defined.
  c. Behavioral relationships are time-limited. The counselor and client agree on how many sessions at the outset and termination occurs during the final session.
  d. When the counselor decides that the client has reached the agreed upon goal, the counselor initiates termination at the next session.
  e. The counselor gradually releases the client. After weekly sessions, the client comes in every other week for two months, then once a month for two months, and then for one six month visit.
