 Advantages
o Straightforward, easy for counselor to explain and client to understand.
o Basis for many of today's theories
o Provides an integrated role of assessment and counseling.
o Success is most often related to abilities, which are an emphasis in this approach.
 Disadvantages
o Does not explore how the past has contributed to the present
o Too simplistic for today's complex problems
o In its true form, does not take into account values, personality or goals or how these might changes over time.
