Answer to Question 1

c

Answer to Question 2

A recent study of deaf college students (Toscano, McKee, & Lepoutre, 2002) found that the key to success for the students was not the mode of communication used by the students (oral or sign language), or the quality of the students education through secondary school, but the ongoing involvement and support of their families in communication and academic achievement.
These students described ongoing, committed involvement of parents in their schooling, particularly in the areas of reading and writing; their mothers were often the ones who taught them to read. Their familiesnot just their mothers, but fathers, siblings, and sometimes grandparentswent to great efforts to learn to communicate with them, and to ensure that the deaf children were included in all family conversations. The researchers concluded: the mode of communication is less important than the quality of communication.
