Answer to Question 1

Children who have had early intervention show both clear gains in IQ and an increased probability of placement in general education classes. Children who received early intervention and who had higher IQs had the best prognosis.

Elements of effective early intervention programs:
Curriculum content that emphasizes five basic skill areas:
attention to aspects of the environment
motoric and visual imitation of others
 receptive and expressive language
 developmentally appropriate play with toys
 social interaction
Supportive teaching environments incorporating generalization strategies
 Predictability and routine
 Functional assessment of problem behaviors
Skills to transition students out of the preschool class
Involvement of parents and other family members

Answer to Question 2

The two issues are obtaining an accurate diagnosis and choosing an intervention system.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
