ANSWER: He wanted schools to be liberating environments that were a means of bringing children together in social participation where they could test their ideas and values in a democratic setting. This would prepare them to live as adults in a true democratic society that embraced all citizens.

ANSWER: He thought the teacher should have the responsibility of being sensitive to children's needs because they would carry the impression of their teacher throughout their lives. By modeling positive behaviors, teachers would give children the knowledge and skills they need in life.
