Answer to Question 1

Water plays a role in most of thephysical weathering processes, but it is essentialfor all types of chemical weathering. Also, chemical weathering increases as more watercomes into contact with rocks. Chemical weathering, then, is particularly effective and rapid inhumid climates. Most arid regionshave enough moisture to allow some chemicalweathering, but it is much more restricted thanin humid climates. Most chemical reactions proceedfaster at higher temperatures.Low latituderegions with humid climates consequently experiencethe most intense chemical weathering. Inthe tropical rainforest, savanna, and monsoonclimates, chemical weathering is more significantthan physical weathering, soils are deep, andlandforms appear rounded.
