Answer to Question 1

Sonoran

Answer to Question 2

Greenhouse gases are transparent to shortwave radiation, so the Sun's radiation passes through the atmosphere to be absorbed by Earth's surface. Once warmed, the surface emits longwave (infrared) radiation, which greenhouse gases can absorb. This energy is eventually radiated to space, but the atmosphere warms in the meantime.
