Natural gas is produced in the Texas Panhandle, western Oklahoma, and western Kansas. Oil is a major industry in parts of eastern Montana, North Dakota, and southern Saskatchewan. Major coal producing regions include parts of Wyoming and Montana.

Wheat, flax, barley, sunflowers, and canola are the major crops grown in the northern Great Plains.
