Answer to Question 1

Purchasing software interfaced with recipe management software can help to determine specific order points that incorporate safety levels (minimum quantities that must always be available). This interface also can provide managers with information about normal lead times (quantities used) between order placement and receipt. Taken together, the information can help to minimize storage space.

Answer to Question 2

They should consider the menu and standard recipe when planning storage, preparation, and production areas. Note: while students may believe this to be obvious, the point is that a menu will likely change and, therefore, flexibility is required in planning restaurant spaces.
