Answer to Question 1

General Theory of Crime (GTC) does not explain why criminals spend most of their days engaged in noncriminal activities. It also fails to explain why some criminals specialize in a crime, while others are more generalists and opportunity-driven. GTC also fails to address individual and ecological patterns in the crime rate. It also overlooks issues of institutional racism, poverty, and relative deprivation, which have been shown to have a significant impact on crime-rate differentials. GTC ignores the moral concept of right and wrong, or belief.. The influence of peers is also not well explained. In addition, it appears that some people do actually change. GTC does not recognize that this change is a possibility. In addition, research shows that some kids whose life circumstances improve decrease their involvement in antisocial behavior if they are exposed to positive and effective parenting later in life. The most important limitation of the theory is that it is a tautology.
