The formal criminal justice process operates like an assembly line or a series of routine operations focused on moving the offender through the system as quickly and efficiently as possible.
In an informal criminal justice system each step in the process is individualized to the offender and highly dependent on the use of discretion by those who work in the criminal justice system.
