Answer to Question 2

Family detention centers are minimum-security residential facilities that provide schooling for children, recreational activities, and access to religious services. Family detention centers provide a way for residents to maintain family unity while ICE enforces immigration laws. It is also used as a way to ensure that immigrants show up for court hearings and leave the country when they are deported. Family members are housed together in a residential, nonsecure setting. The adults are able to attend parenting classes, vocational training, counseling sessions, and arts and crafts classes. They receive three meals a day and public health services.
