The original purpose of the juvenile justice system was to rehabilitate young people and avoid stigma of criminality. How are we currently deterring this goal?

Answer: Answer should include information on adultification of juvenile system, superpredator and waiver to adult court.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: The Court rejected the doctrine of parens patriae as giving the juvenile court unbridled discretion and required that, in hearings in which juveniles may be committed to an institution, they must have the right to counsel, to notice of the charges against them, to question witnesses, and to protection against self-incrimination.
