  • Those who do enter it stay for varying lengths of time and become more or less involved in gang activities and behaviors.

  • It is a reminder that the origins of gang membership are found in several domains, are multidimensional, and include childhood risk factors.

  • It suggests that for many people gang membership may act as a turning point with the potential to alter or redirect basic life-course pathways.

  • It suggests that the duration of gang membership should intensify its consequences.
