Answer to Question 1

The answer should contain the following points:
Desai and colleagues found that there are three problems with the therapeutic detention:
(1 ) The juveniles stay in the facility is too short for there to be an impact.
(2 ) availability of these services are so limited that juveniles could be inappropriately placed.
(3 ) lack of effectiveness in data.
Even though there may be criticism to the therapeutic detention facilities, the institutions who run these facilities came up with a list to counteract the criticism:
(1 ) It is a setting where a wide range of behavior control strategies are available, unlike many community settings such as foster homes or schools.
(2 ) though lengths of stay are short, treatment begun in such settings may steer the momentum in a positive direction.
(3 ) compared with large community programs such as those funded by child welfare agencies, the staff-to-child ratio can be smaller, allowing more personalized attention.

Drug abusers experience the following scenario: The pleasure given by their drug (or drugs) of choice is so strong that it is difficult to eradicate even after years of staying away from the substances involved.
