Why would the jury take documents into the jury room during deliberations?

Answer to Question 1

Answer: They may take any and all documents introduced into evidence during the trial. They may also take in
depositions, transcripts and prepared testimony. Although some states do not allow them to take in
depositions. Some states allow jurors to take notes during the trial and take them with them.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Judges would rather permit a reasonable amount of time for deliberation than have to start the case over
with a new jury, since this step is both time-consuming and expensive. Most judges will do their utmost
to encourage a jury to reach a verdict.
