Serology is the study of antigen and serum antibody reactions. The most widespread application of serology is the typing of whole blood for its A-B-O identity. It is also finding application in the detection of drugs in blood and urine.

The enzyme-multiplied immunoassay technique (EMIT) has gained widespread popularity among toxicologists because of its speed and high sensitivity for detecting drugs in urine. It is frequently used to screen the urine of suspected marijuana users.
