Answer to Question 1

A special type of hollow-shaft reducer is the torque-arm configuration. Torque-arm reducers have one end of an arm attached to the gearbox, and the other end attached to a suitable mounting surface. The arm keeps the gearbox from trying to rotate around the driven shaft.
