Answer to Question 1

A coupling is a mechanical device used to connect two rotating shafts for the purpose of transmitting torque from the driver to the driven piece of rotating equipment.

Answer to Question 2

A backstop is a bearing-like device that allows the shaft to rotate in only one direction.
