Answer to Question 1

IFI - Industrial Fasteners Institute.

Answer to Question 2

More economical than fine threads.
Assemble and disassemble quicker and easier.
Tolerate more contamination and abuse.
Tolerates corrosive attack with less strength loss.
Has less tendency to cross-thread than fine threads.
Better fatigue resistance.

Answer to Question 3

Files can be damaged by using too much or too little pressure on the cutting stroke. You should apply just enough pressure to cut for the entire forward stroke. Too much pressure overloads the file and will cause the teeth to clog and break. Too little pressure allows the teeth to slide over the material and become dulled. You should lift the file from the work on the reverse stroke.
