Answer to Question 1

Answer: Conscientious people are likely to keep their doctors' appointments and take their medication. They are more likely to wear a seat belt, exercise, get enough sleep, and eat more fruits and vegetables. Conscientious people are less likely to smoke or drink alcohol. They are less likely to get drunk, use drugs, smoke, be obese, or get into car accidents. They are also less likely to engage in risky sex and less likely to contemplate suicide. Conscientious people are less likely to get into fights, commit vandalism, or be sexually aggressive. They are less likely to do dangerous things like risky sports or unwise things like eating an entire box of donuts. Conscientious people are more likely to eat healthy diets, including eating more vegetables, and to have a smaller waist circumference.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Psychologist Lewis Terman collected extensive data on about 1,500 California children, asking their parents and teachers long lists of questions about their habits, personalities, and behaviors. Terman surveyed them every few years, asking about their personalities and documenting their lives as they grew into adults. After Terman's death in 1956, other researchers continued the project until it became the longest-running longitudinal study ever conducted.

The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
