Answer to Question 1

Answer: Bipolar disorder is linked to higher neuroticism, but the correlation is smaller than for depression. Bipolar disorder is also linked to higher extraversion, which is the opposite of the low extraversion seen with depression. These are the two poles of bipolar: negative emotion (neuroticism) and positive emotion (extraversion). Mania is also correlated with openness to experience, perhaps why it is seen so often among artists and other creative types.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Bobby has bipolar disorder, which is characterized by manic episodes of high energy followed by a crash into depression (which is why the disorder was once called manic depression). His manic episodes include an elevated, expansive mood, high self-esteem, little need for sleep, impulsive decisions, and a mind that races through ideas.
