Answer to Question 1

Answer: Most of the time, personality disorder symptoms lessen as people mature, peaking during early adolescence and then declining. Some of this decline is a normal part of growing up.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: More people with personality disorders had parents who were emotionally cold and distant. Their parents were more likely to have extreme parenting styles (either too harsh or too inconsistent), use guilt or shame to control children, and/or not express affection. The more negative experiences children have, the more likely they are to develop a personality disorder as an adult.
