Answer to Question 1

Answer: Evolutionary psychology argues that many sex differences in sexuality occur due to fundamental differences in reproduction. Having a child is a much bigger investment for women, who must be pregnant for 9 months and may breastfeed for a year or more. Thus, women should be more cautious about casual sex.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: The testis-determining factor, or TDF, determines sex. It directs the early fetal development of testes, which produce male hormones such as testosterone. That begins the cascade that results in the biologically based differences between the sexes.
