ANS: A
The USS Stewart was the first vessel to make a continuous profile of the ocean. They had an updated
version of the Iceberg Detector and Echo Depth Sounder, a device invented after the sinking of the
Titanic. Information can be found in the section Ocean Floor Is Mapped by Bathymetry.

ANS: C
There is a prevalence of active margins in the Pacific. These are areas associated with converging
plates and are characterized by high earthquake and volcanic activity. Recall the Pacific Ring of Fire
