Answer to Question 1

Sediments that accumulate over time on the sea floor comprise a nearly continuous, undisturbed record of Earth history unlike anything on land. Marine sediments record Earth's history  200 million of year. Scientific analysis of marine sediments reveal a detailed history of Earth's past climate, thus providing insight into today's climate changes.
